Cape Hatteras kiteboarding is one of the top destinations and is about 70 miles long and at its widest its around 1 mile wide. On the east coast you have the Atlantic Ocean and on the west side you have the Pamlico Sound. The Atlantic offers some of the best waves on the east coast and the Sound side offers flat and shallow water for miles. So no matter what your riding style, you’ll find something that suits your needs.The closest major airport to Cape Hatteras is Norfolk International Airport (ORF). From there its best and most affordable to get a rental car which can be purchased at the airport. You’ve still got a 1-2 hour drive depending on how far your going down into the OBX. They do have an airport close to Real Watersports (The Dare County Regional Airport) if you’ll be flying in on a private plane or jet.

You can kite in Cape Hatteras all year long but the spring and summer months are the best. The official season is from April – October. The area offers everything from flat & shallow water, a whole coastline of waves, slider park obstacles and great downwinders. The best waves in the area are by the Buxton Lighthouse and you can find the slider park at the slick!
